Qualifications
LLB (Hons) from Cardiff Law School
Diplib (Post-graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies)
Sponsored by HFW to qualify as legal executive (specialising in civil litigation).
Completed and passed Ann Hall's BIPT indexing course.
Advanced Professional Member of the Society of Indexers
Worked for nine years as the Law Librarian and researcher at City law firm Holman Fenwick Willan, where I also abstracted law reports for the firm newsletter, amongst other tasks, and as assistant librarian and researcher at City law firm Simmons & Simmons.
A great deal of my work involved the use of indexes, working alone and with practitioners. It was partly because of that that I had the idea of becoming an indexer and learnt that quick, direct access is what practitioners require.
I maintained, including indexing, a comprehensive database of journal articles, as well as cataloguing all the books.
Worked as a library assistant at the Cardiothoracic Institute of the National Heart Hospital and Brompton Hospital.
I became a freelance indexer in 1994 and have been fully employed as an indexer since, completing over 3000 pieces of work. I have also worked as an abstractor of cases and journal articles for Lawtel and Legal Information Resources/Sweet & Maxwell.
